SKINNEY Medspa in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair and More

SKINNEY Medspa, the internationally renowned skin and laser spa was among the elite brands included in Saks Fifth Avenue’s makeover of its beauty department. The new beauty emporium, moved off the ground floor to its new location on the second floor, is garnering a lot of attention in the press as spectators contemplate Saks’ bold new business model for its beauty department.

The Wall Street Journal’s article “Saks Bumps Its Beauty Counter Off Coveted Ground Floor” claims the “New York store aims to win back shoppers by adding spa services, taking ‘a big risk’” but elaborates on the new design saying “Shoppers can have their eyebrows shaped by Blink Brow Bar, exercise their face to tone sagging muscles at the FaceGym or visit the Skinney MedSpa for fat-freezing CoolSculpting treatments.” The Wall Street Journal quotes Saks’ President Marc Metrick who explains, “We had to do something outside the box to create a place not just to transact for beauty, but to experience it.” Beauty is no longer about impulse buys, “at least at the high end, ‘it has shifted to be more about luxury treatments,’“ Says Metrick.

The New York Times’ article “Now at Saks: Salt Rooms, a Bootcamp and a Peek at Retail’s Future” elaborates on Metrick’s sentiment as he explains the beauty department’s focus has evolved to centralize on wellness, calling it “‘the new luxury.’ It used to be about fur and leather. But people just want to feel better.” The New York Times lists Skinney Medspa as one of the new brands aimed at making people feel better, characterizing the spa as a “boutique offering ‘noninvasive body contouring’ treatments like CoolSculpting, a weight-loss treatment that freezes fat cells away.”

On the second floor at Saks Fifth Avenue…32,000-square-foot new beauty emporium is a one-stop destination for makeup, skincare, fragrances, and wellness, providing luxury-seeking customers an unparalleled experience…The serious beauty hub [includes] Laser hair removal, CoolSculpting, and more by Skinney MedSpa…”
