HOW DO IPL PHOTOFACIALS WORK?
Photofacials use specific wavelengths of light that are calibrated to penetrate pigment build up below the skin’s surface, such as the melanin-enriched areas and broken capillaries. The laser is pulsed, on and off, to keep the surrounding skin safe, while the melanin or vein absorbs that wavelength. When the melanin or vein has soaked up enough, the thermal energy overwhelms and kills the cells there. The residual fragments are slowly absorbed by the body via its normal metabolic processes. When those fragments have degraded, the sun damage will fade, and sometimes even disappear.

In addition to targeting discoloration, thermal energy from the Intense Pulsed Light warms the deep layers of skin, stimulating natural skin rejuvenation. In response, the body creates more collagen and elastin, effectively treating some of the fine lines and other signs of aging that can appear prematurely due to UV damage.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Most patients need at least a few sessions of IPL Photofacial treatments in order to see optimal results. Individual experiences vary, but the majority of patients can tell the difference from the initial treatment’s results and go on to achieve their desired appearance after a few more treatments. Photofacials can also target hyperpigmentation, melasma, or rosacea, are used to target sun damage on the neck, chest, and hands.
