Harper's Bazaar reveals 'How to Combat Cellulite"

Cellulite is one beauty woe that is hard to treat, but Harper’s Bazaar talks to the experts to find out “what causes the orange-peel effect and how to combat it” in the article “How to Combat Cellulite.”

What Causes Cellulite?

Harper’s Bazaar notes that 90% of women report having cellulite, but despite this being a universal issue, there are few cellulite treatments that actually work. Part of the difficulty in creating a cellulite solution is the complexity of what causes cellulite. According to the experts everything from “fat, water, skin tissue, diet, genetics, hormones and even the wrong undies have been blamed” for causing cellulite.

Why do women get cellulite more often than men?

Harper’s Bazaar explains why women get more cellulite than their male counterparts. “Men and women both have fibres that tether the skin, running through the soft tissue. In men, they are in a criss-cross pattern, creating a strong mesh that holds the fat cells in place. In women they run vertically, so any increase in bulk (water retention, more fat being stored, even well-developed muscles pushing from underneath) shoves these cells up into the skin. Over time, these elastic fibres become hard and tight, again helping to squeeze fat cells and trap fluid. With thin or ageing skin, as fat cells are pushed up, you get that infamous dimpled-mattress effect.”

While Harper’s Bazaar notes that there is no miracle cure for cellulite, there are some state of the art cosmetic procedures that can make a serious difference in the appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite treatments that actually work

The article makes a list of cellulite “treatments that actually work …” noting that “any successful cellulite treatment is an investment of both time and money — and they only work as long as you keep them up. But for a pre-beach body — and morale-booster — or just for the very dedicated, these treatments can make a real difference.”

Topping their list of cellulite treatments that actually work is CoolSculpting. Check out what Harper’s Bazaar has to say about CoolSculpting:

One for those with problematic rolls and localised areas of fat seeking permanent fat-reduction. A hand-held device is used to apply suction to a pocket (such as your inner thigh), drawing it up into a “cup” fitted with cooling panels, crystallising the fat cells and causing them to diminish (on average, 25 per cent of that area’s fat cells are permanently destroyed). Each leg takes about an hour, with minimal discomfort if you’re unbothered by intense cold, numbness and strong suction. “The skin’s temperature is taken down to about five degrees [Celcius] — enough to kill the fat cells, but not enough to cause frostbite to the skin or damage to nerves or blood vessels,” says Dr Garry Cussell, principal physician at The Facial Rejuvenation Clinic. “You won’t see results straight away; you’ll see difference from three weeks up to the three-month mark.” From $900 per area treated, with one to two sessions typically recomended; 1300 992 665.
