Cosmopolitan beauty columnist Carly Cardellino sought the advice of Jolie Martin and other renowned beauty experts for the secrets behind great eyelashes in the article “18 Things All Women With Great Eyelashes Do.” Cardellino comforts her readers who “need a little help in the lash department” saying the following tips from “Jolie Martin, director and head aesthetician at Skinney MedSpa, will help you achieve fuller, more luscious eyelashes in no time. Here’s what women who have great lashes do:”
Condition Eyelashes Nightly
Condition your eyelashes with Castor oil or Marula oil to strengthen eyelashes. As Jolie Martin explains to Cosmopolitan “Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid and essential fatty acids, which absorb into your lash line, accelerate blood circulation, and help promote hair growth.”
When applying mascara, curl eyelashes first
By curling your eyelashes before applying mascara, you’ll avoid the risk of eyelashes getting stuck to the curler and ripped out when removing the curler. Cosmo also tells its readers to remove mascara nightly because sleeping in your mascara can dry your eyelashes out and cause them to become brittle.
Heat Eyelash Curler Before Using
Another interesting eyelash tip that relates to applying mascara is heating the curler with a blow dryer before curling your eyelashes. Following the same concept as a curling iron, warming up the eyelash curler will prolong your lashes’ curl and shape.
Angle the Curler for a bigger curl
Curling your eyelashes at an angle creates a more intense curl. Cosmopolitan explains this eyelash curling technique step by step for its readers: “To create a big lash curl, clamp the lashes at the very base, press the curler together lightly, and hold the lashes in place for a few seconds. Completely release the clamp and move it about halfway up the lash hairs while turning the curler at an angle parallel to the ground. Clamp and hold again. Finally, move the curler to the tip of the lashes, and give one final press, turning the lash curler almost upright.”
Don’t Over Pump the Curler
When using a curler on your eyelashes, do not press down more than twice. Over pumping the eyelash curler may indent your eyelashes causing them to look crimped, not curled.
Apply baby powder between mascara applications
Applying baby powder in-between mascara applications is an easy way to increase the volume of your eyelashes.
Remove Mascara with Downward Swipes
When removing your mascara at night, Cosmopolitan suggests using a downward motion with a cleansing pad. Rubbing your eyes with a side to side motion may inadvertently rip out your eyelashes. Another great eyelash tip: let your eyelashes soak up the cleansing pad for a few seconds before wiping.

Eyelash extensions, comonly known as false eyelashes, are the popular beauty trend for luscious and voluminous eyelashes and ideal for women who dislike applying clumpy, smudgy mascara.
When applying eyelash extensions, there is a big difference between eyelashes that are applied by the individual and professionally applied eyelash extensions. To attain the perfect curl, eyelash specialists carefully apply each extension, perfectly matched to eye color and shape. The result is luscious, voluminous eyelashes that look natural and highlight the eyes.
